Renault Kwid is one of the low budget cars that quickly grabs lots of attention. It was first seen in Auto Expo 2014. It is currently one of India’s best selling cars. It actually challenges the monopoly of Maruti Alto and no need to say that it successfully able to give customers another great choice.
Renault Kwid Exterior
Renault Kwid is the first car in the entry-level hatchback segment that gives SUV feeling. It looks much fresh in comparison to aged alto. The black beefed up plastic wheel arches and tall stance adds SUV appeal to the car. it is clear that its base design is taken from Duster and many people named it mini-Duster too.
The front grill comes with a futuristic pattern. The company used less chrome in front, the only front you will get on diamond Renault logo. If you are missing the chrome factor then know that you can customize the honeycomb grill. That’s not it company is offering lots of other customization options that you would love to try.
The bumper comes with some bulges that help it to achieve SUV look. Moreover, it has round fog lamps too. At the bottom, you will get the same traditional style on the grill.
Make a not the car is not as much small as it looks in the picture and the side profile is characterized by large windows and high window line. The black slats at the bottom give you a plastic look but aren’t, it is just a vinyl sticker. If you don’t like it and want to get an original plastic then you can customize it.
Renault Kwid comes with 155 mm tyres and 13-inch rims but what makes its unique is 3 nuts, actually only 3 nuts were used to fasten the wheels. Maybe 4 lug nuts would have to give it a better look. Anyways you can find the same set of lug nuts in Tata Nano, Alto, and Eon.
The door handles and outside mirror are conventional units and have black color. The mirrors of Renault Kwid are not adjustable from inside and plastic quality of it bit poor, it is something that goes same with Alto 800. Front wheel arch is integrated with side turn indicator bulbs. On the side, just behind the back window, you will get variant badging.
The top of the car has U shaped depression. This is done purposely so that it helps the thinner sheet metal to increase it compensates and rigidity. All variants come with the roof spoiler and apart from it you will a long FM antenna. You can ask for roof rails too.
At the front, it gets a single wiper and no wiper for the back. This seems a cost-cutting thing but glad that it cleans up most of the windshield. Top variant RXT features mist function that sprays a washer fluid. You will not the same feature in any other car in the segment.
Now coming to dimensions then Renault Kwid is one of the longest cars in the segment with 3679 mm. As it is based on Duster you can expect a good ground clearance that is 180 mm. The wheel base of this car is 2422 mm which is higher than Alto and Eon. It has 660 kg curb weight which makes it almost 50 kgs lighter than Nano. Surprising, isn’t? Wait we have one more, it comes with 300 liters of boot space that is best in the segment.

Renault Kwid Interior
As you know that Renault Kwid is a budget car so you may have to compromise with many things. Now it is up to your perception how you take it. You have read about exterior now see what things you will get in the interior.
The company tried very hard to give you the best despite adding cost-cutting elements. Renault Kwid. You will get all the basic and necessary elements in the car. You may cope up with other but the plastic quality may disappoint you more.
The first thing in the interior that makes you forget everything about other lows of the interior is 7” touchscreen infotainment system. It is simply borrowed from Duster. The system is surrounded by a touch of chrome and piano black bezel. Moreover, you will get USB, navigation, and Bluetooth. Again this is the only car in the segment that comes with factory fitted touch screen.
Just below the infotainment system, you will get air con functions. The knobs are garnished with chrome. You will get air conditioning in all variants except low-end variant.
Power windows, central locking, hazard lights are placed below. This is again a clever design or cost-cutting tactic otherwise they have to put a switch on both sides but now it is placed in the center and can be accessible by both.
Below this console and just ahead of gear stick you will get a 12v charging point and cup holders. You get a small cubby between the gear stick and the handbrake.
Renault Kwid houses a little but nice stylish steering wheel. When you put the key in the ignition then you will realize that 7” infotainment system is not the key thing. The next big thing is orange illuminated instrument cluster. It comes with a small strip that let you experience a host of readouts like distance to empty, odometer, real-time fuel consumption, trip meter, average fuel consumption, trip fuel consumption, average speed, and distance traveled. You can alternate all the readouts by pressing the reset button.
The indicator stalks and headlight are easily accessible right from the steering wheel. It features lane change feature that shut off on its own.
On the passenger side, you will get a two glove box. Above one has cut space that is to holding water bottle while the bottom has large space that can be used just the way you like.
There are two front speakers that are mounted on either end of the dash. Before you are expecting more from it then know that it is not for those who love heavy music.
The front seats get a triple tone grey –red – black upholstery. You will get more comfortable seats in comparison to Alto with more space and under thigh support. One thing that you may not like is headrests as it is not adjustable.
In terms of spaciousness, Renault Kwid is a clear winner if it is competing with Alto & Eon. Where tall people have to struggle in Alto & Eon, they will get full space in Renault Kwid but make a note that three people cannot comfortably seat at back.
Renault Kwid Performance
Renault Kwid comes in 3 petrol engine variants 0.8 SCe, 1.0 SCe, and 1.0 SCe AMT. As you are here for AMT version lets talk about it. First of all, know that Renault Kwid introduces the AMT variant to compete with Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 AGS. It is a two-pedal version for that you have to pay Rs. 30,000 extra. The Renault Kwid AMT is best and shift shocks are surprisingly minimal. The gearbox makes progress swiftly and picks up throttle inputs reasonably.
Renault company is known for providing cars with great handling and ride. You will get the same in Renault Kwid too. Its suspension has been set up on the soft side despite being a city car. It eats up bad roads really well. One of the major drawbacks of Renault Kwid is its turning radius which is 5m while the rival Alto 800 has 4.6 m of turning radius.
