Datsun RediGo is a minimalist, stylish, fuel efficient and compact city hatchback. It is much inspired by Renault Kwid but comes with different features and dimensions. No need to say that it is one of the most affordable cars in India. Earlier it was offered with the 0.8-liter engine but it is now available with 1.0-liter engine as well.
Datsun RediGo Exterior
Datsun RediGo has quite a funky look that appeals most of the car lovers, especially who are planning to buy their first affordable car. It has conventional tall boy design that has the just right amount of details that obviously enough to grab attention.
Back in 2014 Auto Expo company show the production-spec version and the best thing is they stayed with it without any changes. The smoked out sweptback headlamps, heavily detailed bumper, large hexagonal honeycomb grille give Datsun RediGo a lot of character.
Integrated LED daytime running lamps and a little dab of chrome around the grille gives it a neat look. It has faux skidplate at the bottom that just looks awesome as it gives Datsun RediGo additionally a raised look.
Its side profile gets a character line that continues across the length of the car. A character line that evolves from the headlamps and faded away into the taillamps.
It has another character line that starts from the front door and ends at the tailgate. Datsun RediGo looks thin in comparison to the predecessor. Apart from that 13-inch wheels boasted with a good set of alloy gives it’s a different look.
It gets boomerang shaped taillamps that gives its rear a funkier look otherwise the rear is plain and simple. The rear bumper gets a reflector at both ends and a faux skid plate.
You will also find a 1.0 badge behind the Datsun RediGo 1.0 liter variant. Overall the design of the car is not something like that we can say out of the box or path-breaking, it is likable.
It comes with a 222 liter of boot space that is too less in comparison to Renault Kwid that has 300 liters of boot space. Well, that is just comparison but RediGo’s boot space is enough to carry two average sized bags and some more.
Datsun RediGo looks fresh, young and quirky, unlike the Alto twins. That’s not it, the company let you personalize the car with up to 50 accessories. The five personalized kit options include Style, Urban, Kool, Easy Kit – premium style, and Easy Kit – enhance style.

Datsun RediGo Interior
Datsun RediGo was launched with all grey interior but now it gets a sporty black interior. The dashboard itself get an upgrade and look well contoured now. It is much better than a plain jane slab of plastic that you got on the predecessor. Apart from it, you will get a gloss black center console that looks smart.
The infotainment system has no Bluetooth option this simply means that you can’t play music wirelessly even can’t make or take phone calls, that’s disappointing but thankfully it gets a USB and AUX support.
In terms of storage space, one large and another smaller cupholder could have been better. The door pads also come with a limited storage. The glovebox has enough space to carry some knick-knacks and vehicle documents.
Datsun RediGo comes with ample of knee room and headroom at rear seat but when it comes to shoulder room then it is not adequate for three people. Though the seats are comfortable, it comes with under-thigh support and quite lumbar. There is no adjustable headrests and folding handrest at the back.
Now coming to front seats then they too are quite comfortable but from the top half, they feel quite narrower. The distance between the driver seat and steering wheel aren’t spacious enough for 6ft or above drivers. Here sliding seats could help but unfortunately, there are no sliding seats.
Now, this might be ignorable as most of the Indian average height is 5`8` but if you are tall then this car isn’t for you. Overall Datsun RediGo is more spacious than rival Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and as spacious as the Renault Kwid.
Datsun RediGo Performance
Datsun RediGo comes in two engine variants 0.8-liter petrol and 1.0-liter petrol engine. Lets first start with 0.8 liters or 800cc engine that generates 54 PS power and 72 Nm of torque.
Before you judge it knows it Datsun RediGo is tuned for fuel efficiency, not for performance. So don’t consider this car for yourself if you are looking for driving thrills but yes this car is for you if you are the one who wants a fuel efficient comfortable car.
Now coming to 1.0-liter petrol variant then it generates 68 PS of power @ 5500 rpm and 91 Nm of torque @ 4250 rpm. This variant is more refined in comparison to 0.8-liter variant. The biggest noticeable difference that you will experience is in gear response.
